Conservation and Preservation Grant Writing Workshop Date/ Time: Tuesday, October 1, 2013 10:00 am – 1:00 pm Location: Broome County Public Library (BCPL), Decker Auditorium 185 Court St, Binghamton, NY 13901 Registration: Free! This workshop is available at no cost to participants. However,  registration is required  online. Register at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QDM2F6N Audience: Librarians, archivists, curators, and volunteers working in libraries, archives, historical societies  and other such NYS agencies interested in applying for a Discretionary  Grant are encouraged to attend the program. Sponsor: Conservation/ Preservation Discretionary Grant Program Division of Library Development , New York State Library New York State Education Department This workshop will include a review of the general guidelines and a step-by-step review of the instructions for preparing a 2013/2014 Conservation and  Preservation Discretionary Grant application. Included will be  a description of the types of activities and projects that will be able to be funded  through the program. Considerable time will be allowed for questions, and representative examples of successful (and unsuccessful) applications from previous years will be discussed. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to successfully write a grant application that meets program requirements. The Discretionary Grant Program provides modest financial support for projects  that contribute to the preservation of significant research materials in libraries , archives, historical societies and other agencies within the State of New York,  whether by conducting surveys, improving collections storage environments, reformatting  or treating collections or other preservation activities described in the guidelines. The purpose of the New York State Discretionary Grant Program is to encourage  the proper care and accessibility of research materials in the State, to promote the  use and development of guidelines and standards for conservation/ preservation practices , and to support the growth of local and cooperative preservation  programs.
